iPhone 3G S AT&T Exclusive: Verizon anyone?

Thursday, June 11, 2009

When Apple announced the new iPhone 3G S during its WWDC 2009 keynote on Monday, we was not prepared for the shock that AT&T and had in store for its customers. Since current AT&T customers learned that they would have to buy themselves out of their current contract, as well as pay the full price for the handset, customers have been very angry.
While studying the price plans, upgrade price and handset price, it seems that AT&T are now taking its exclusivity with the iPhone for granted. This is now leading for more calls for Apple to open the iPhone up to other carriers, and Verizon would be the first choice.
AT&T exclusive deal with the iPhone runs out in 2010, and if Apple wants to keep selling these handsets, then they had better start to listen to who pays their wages, and that is the customer.
This is the same story in the UK, O2 has the iPhone exclusive deal with Apple and they are also taking advantage of the deal. It seems that these companies know that they are the only choice to have an iPhone on contract.
The new Apple iPhone 3G S needs to open up on to other networks and end the monopoly that they have on us. When it comes to having a Smartphone as popular as the iPhone, we should have a choice who we would like to have our contract with, not just one who can seem to pluck any price out of the air.
Who would like to see the iPhone expanded with more networks?

Exposure of battery to extreme heat may result in an explosionSony VAIO VGN-FZ ReviewSony's VAIO systems are laptops with sleek design and, often times, a much larger price tag than their more traditional counterparts. The VGN-FZ series of laptop computers does offer attractive design, but the prices are quite reasonable this time.We took a look at a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ190 CTO which starts out well equipped at $1,200. At that price, Sony packs in an Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 processor with twin 1.8GHz processing cores and a decent 1GB of speedy 667MHz DDR2 memory. This central power gives you enough oomph to run the included Windows Vista Home Premium edition operating system. These laptops feature a large 15.4-inch widescreen display that delivers excellent images thanks to its 1280x800 resolution and XBRITE Hi-Color technology. With NVIDIA's GeForce 8400M GT graphics on board, these laptops actually have game. These graphics feature 256MB of dedicated video memory and offer DirectX 10 support for the latest games. The hard drive starts out at a modest 100GB in a 5,400rpm drive. These VAIO systems support up to 250GB drives, so you can really boost the storage space if you need more elbow room. The default optical drive is a rather basic combination DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive that can burn CDs and play DVD movies, but can't handle any DVD writes. You can upgrade to a Dual Layer DVD writer for only $30, letting you burn traditional DVDs as well as 8.5GB DVD DL media and DVD-RAM disks.Or, you can add a DVD writer with Blu-Ray capabilities to your VGN-FZ. These drives handle all the same DVD writing and can also play high definition DVD movies and even burn Blu-Ray disks, but they add over $400 to the price tag. The NVIDIA graphics also includes an HDMI output port, so you can play Blu-Ray DVDs on your home theater HDTV with this option as well.Connectivity is cutting-edge on these VAIO laptops. In addition to a modem and network interface, the built-in wireless supports 802.11a/b/g and the new faster Wireless N, so you'll be able to connect at any WiFi hotspot you come across. There is a built-in camera and microphone, so you can videoconference or video chat without having to pick up any other accessories. And the AV Instant Mode lets you watch a DVD, listen to music or view photos without having to boot up the entire laptop.Even with the 15.4-inch widescreen, these laptops weigh in at much less than six pounds, making them easier to port around than the average mid-range laptop. And the just VGN-FZ looks great, with their trim design and silver coloring with a black or white keyboard. For the price, you get an excellently performing laptop with all the style that Sony is known for. Users who want a sleek and fairly slim portable with a nice widescreen display should definitely consider the Sony VAIO VGN-FZ line of laptop computers.Check them: [phpbay]sony vaio, 10[/phpbay]

Computex 2009: InnoDisk 128GB nanoSSD

With all the news at E3 2009 and all the rumors surrounding WWDC 2009 next week, we seem to have missed out a little on Computex 2009. The latest piece of news is that a new company called InnoDisk is about to launch its new product, the InnoDisk 128GB nanoSSD.
InnoDisk is a company that specializes in memory and SSD related products, so it seems the natural thing to do to launch a product like the 128GB nanoSSD. Tweaktown was on hand at the event and has been talking to Steven and a few others from the company, who then gave them a video introduction of this small yet amazing product.
This impressive 128GB Nano SSD drive is a storage revolution, we have moved from 3.5-inch to a 2.5-inch and now have moved yet again down to a Nano SSD. If you thought that was incredible, just wait until you watch the video below.

Sunday, June 7, 2009

Last night the Palm Pre went on sale in Sprint stores for $200, after a $100 mail-in rebate. The launch was nothing like the Apple iPhone release; there were no campers or long lines.
This did not stop a few early shoppers. Wired.com report that some early birds were proud to be one of the first to get a Palm Pre in Sprint's Palo Alto store, California.
So just how will the Palm Pre stack up against the new iPhone in 2009 and Blackberry Smartphone's? The CEO of Sprint believes that the Pre handles the combination of business and consumer phone better than the competition, read a Q&A with Dan Hesse, CEO of Sprint Nextel Corp on ajc.com.
If you're looking for more information about the Palm Pre, then check out our post about the 3 part detailed Palm Pre review.
Do you see the Palm Pre as your next phone upgrade?
