Olay® Definity™ Overview

Since Olay® does not describe the contents of this complex, but rather lists all ingredients together, our guess is that its primary ingredient is Acetyl Glucosamine. Can this simple sugar actually transform damaged, aging skin to its youthful appearance? Are the remaining ingredients in the Definity™ products able to reduce uneven tone, wrinkles, and dryness as the Olay® advertisements claim?

Ingredients At A Glance

The Olay® Definity™ line is formulated with Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Niacinamide, Isobutane, Propane, Acetyl Glucosamine, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polyethylene, Polyacrylamide, Panthenol, Polysorbate 20, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Dimethiconol, DMDM Hydantoin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Laureth-4, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Disodium EDTA, Safflower Seed Oil, Laureth-7, Fragrance, Cranberry Fruit Extract, Butylene Glycol, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Soybean seed Extract, Morus Alba Root Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Soluble Collagen, Methylparaben, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tin Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Mica.

Ingredients In Focus

Acetyl Glucosamine may be able to help regenerate damaged joints—whether this translates into support for damaged skin is unknown at this time. We do know that products like Matrixyl 3000 are able to heal the skin at the deepest levels, helping it to make its own collagen supply once more. It is fairly obvious that the Definity™ glucosamine complex does not do this as each product includes a dose of soluble collagen.

Ingredients like the B vitamin Niacinamide and White Mulberry (Albus Mora) are intended to whiten the skin, making brown spots more even with your natural color. Niacinamide also relieves puffiness and reduces blemishes like acne. Natural moisturizers in Definity include Aloe Vera, vitamin E, and Safflower oil. It also contains Sodium Hyaluronate, a form of one of the best available hydrating agents, Hyaluronic Acid.

We wish Definity™ included an ingredient like Argireline to tackle fine lines. This amino acid complex acts like Botox but with none of the risk—topical application of Argireline results in relaxed skin creases and a smoother appearance.

Positives

* May even color of facial skin with natural whiteners and hydrates skin with Sodium Hyaluronate
* Olay® provides a full list of ingredients upfront

Negatives

* Samples are not always readily available from the manufacturer
* Fails to include a skin matrix fortifier like Matrixyl 3000
* Rating sites reveal mixed feedback from consumers, many complaining they noticed no results
* Does not include a wrinkle relaxer like Argireline

Final Thoughts

The "glucosamine complex" in Olay® Definity™ is not capable of replenishing collagen the way a product with Matrixyl 3000 can. And while this formula may be able to lighten skin tone and provide some moisture, it is not going to smooth away lines like Argireline. Don't be fooled by advertising, low prices, and taglines—Olay® Definity™ is simply an inferior product when compared to skin creams that actually moisturize and ease away wrinkles while fixing the skin's lack of collagen at its root. We know savvy customers can look beyond packaging and realize that some manufacturers opt for lesser ingredients, leading to a lower cost and also a somewhat inadequate product. You and your skin deserve the best, so be sure to select a formula made with the best skin care ingredients available.
