Intel lose market share to AMD

Sunday, June 14, 2009

AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) have done what many thought was impossible, and that is to gain the market share that Intel have dominated for so long. AMD have seen strong sales in its microprocessor portfolio, which means that one has to lose out, and that is the giant Intel.
AMD shares have risen by 2.3 percentage points to 12.8%, Intel has dropped 2.5 points to 79.1%, this is according to iSuppli. They also said that this decline has ended a string of four quarters of sequential growth in 2008.
Microprocessor global sales have fallen by 20.6% to $6.9 billion from $8.6 billion in the fourth quarter compared to the same period last year. AMD managed to increase its share in the first quarter; both AMD and Intel have seen a decline, which is a direct result of the global economic downturn.
