MSI Netbook Product Review
Sunday, July 12, 2009
?heavy laptop in addition to all of those books. The portability of this machine was the first deciding factor in my purchase. The computer is quick and it has a lot of hard drive space which was another big deciding factor when I was shopping for it. Many of the other options had flash storage which would make it difficult to store and upload photos unless I was to carry a thumb drive. I wasn't interested in purchasing and carrying around additional accessories. The built-in webcam is great for keeping in touch with the family when I'm on the road. I'm impressed with how quick and efficient the computer is. I do tend to run Linux on the machine, because it does make everything run faster, but for those times when Linux is frustrating, I can always boot into windows to save myself the frustration. Despite the fact that the MSI netbook is running XP, I have not had any problems with installing and using programs. I purchased and installed office professional and it runs just as well as it does on my desktop. I cannot, however, recommend this type of computer for someone running a photo-editing program or anything that requires a lot of memory. I do not consider this a "negative" when reviewing the product. You must have realistic expectations; attempting to run a program such as Photoshop on a machine such as this and then complaining about it is just foolish on the part of the user. The MSI netbook is a practical computer for basic office applications. The design is sleek, which, being a female that was a deciding factor in my purchase. I found that many of the other choices looked more like toys than a "computer."MSI Netbook Product Review

Choosing the Best Web Designer for Your Business
Friday, July 3, 2009
?isle 5, while the right shoes are in isle 3. Shoe hills are in random places.?You can barely walk through the store without stumbling over a shoe. No employees are in sight. As you are desperate for help, you finally make it past the heaping hill of shoes to the back of the store and find a button that says “Page for Help”. You press the button and out comes a card that says “please leave your mailing address, we’ll send you a letter”.?Frustrated, you leave the store, and finally realize there is a Footlocker across the street. We all know how first impressions can make or break a potential customer's decision to buy. With more and more people discovering the internet, most businesses do not realize that their company website is the customer's first impression. A Reflection of How You Do Business Your website should be a reflection of your business. Would you allow your customers to walk through a maze to get your contact information? Do you want to answer your customer's questions or leave them guessing? Do you want them to find your product information? Your website will reflect these answers back to your customer. What Web Design Isn’t Web Design is not: • All the Bells and Whistles • A Tease • A Get Rich Quick Scheme All The Bells and Whistles Would you buy a luxury car that got you ten miles and then died? Then why would you want your website to be the best but unfunctional? Sometimes we forget that having the best of the best of something means to sacrifice something else. For instance, have you ever seen a website made entirely in Macromedia Flash? ( Click here for more info about flash ) There is nothing wrong with a nicely animated website, however, this will shut out potential customers who do not have, nor wish to install the flash player plug-in. This restricts certain users who have certain plugins installed on their computers, and you don’t want to ever shut out potential customers. If you wish to do that, make sure you have a good purpose and make sure you clearly state on your website what those requirements are. A Tease It’s better to have too much information than too little. Don’t expect a potential customer to want to wade through pages to contact you for more information. If you sell pink shoe laces and neglect to put that information on your website, your potential customer may end up going somewhere else to look for pink show laces. It’s too easy to just ‘go somewhere else’, or ‘do another search engine query’. A Get Rich Quick Scheme Why Nancy, only fools rush in. A common misconception I have seen is that business owners believe their website will attract millions of visitors within the first week of creating their website. Without the funds, research and dedicated time, this is simply not true. The instant you upload your website, it is lost in the millions and billions of virtual pages across the internet. You have to market your website just like you market your business; tell people. You will not get the keyword you want from search engines, you will not receive millions of visitors, and you will not sell all your products within the first week. However, if you take the time to do your research, study internet marketing, spread your website via word of mouth, and design careful search engine placement; you CAN get the keyword you want, you CAN receive millions of visitors and you CAN sell all your products. What Web Design Is Web Design is: • A Sales Tool • A Cost Efficient Expansion of Your Business • A Community Service A Sales Tool You can think of your website as a brochure. We have an attractive image on the front that says “open me, you know you want to”. Inside we have product information, company information, contact information, and reasons why the potential customer should choose you. With happy thoughts, the potential customer now turns into the buying customer because your website reflected the everlasting impression of what your business is. A Cost Efficient Expansion of Your Business Imagine being able to keep your store open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Imagine being able to sell products and services in your sleep. Imagine being able to sell to anyone, anywhere, to whatever region you want. Sounds nice doesn’t it? This is what your website should be providing for you. Hiring a web designer, paying monthly web hosting space, and purchasing a yearly domain name costs a fraction of what it does if you were to open several locations around the world. This tell the customer “We provide options for you.”. Imagine how grateful someone in a wheelchair would be if they didn’t have to have someone drive them to your business to shop around, or what if they were bedridden and couldn’t leave their homes at all? A Community Service What better way to say “I love you” than to bring people together. This is another way you can use your website to reflect your business. A community focused business website brings your customers together who have similar interest and who feel warm and fuzzy inside for finding a group of people just like them. For instance, ecademy.com is a perfect example of a community focused website. It’s exciting to wake up, check your email and get a personal message from a fellow networker. You can start more focused interest clubs, you can write articles. You feel apart of something. What A Web Developer Isn’t • A Miracle Worker • A One Service Provider • A Lazy Bum A Miracle Worker Beware of web designers who make promises they cannot keep. A web developer’s failure to live up to his/her promises will more than likely hurt your website, which in return can hurt your business image. Let’s take a search engine such as Google.com as an example. Google.com plays by their own rules that web developers cannot control, only abide by. A web developers promise to get you in #1 spot for the keyword “shoe” is almost impossible. There are some people who will result to measures that are against Google.com policy, to make you think you’ve reached that #1 spot. Keyword spamming, url spoofing, keyword hiding, to name a few. Resulting to these measures will make your site look unprofessional and get you banned from Google.com. A One Service Provider You shouldn’t have to shop in ten different locations to create your website. This will lead to ten different levels of quality. For example, if you have to hire a graphic designer for the graphical layout, then a programmer for the shopping cart, and a writer for the content; if each professional isn’t on the same thinking page about your company, it will be evident. A Lazy Bum A good Web Design Professional isn’t willing to cut corners if it means sacrificing the quality of your online presence. This includes, but not limited to: search engine preparing, content management and research, information placement, programming and more. If your web developer slacks on any of these issues, your website will show it. What A Web Developer Is • A Solutions Provider • A Consultant • A Fast Learner A Solutions Provider You deserve a web developer in tune to your business needs and who understands how your website effects the image you are trying to create. The Developer should be able to provide many, if not all the resources available to complete your website from start to finish, or know the correct people who can. A Consultant You should feel confident asking your web developer questions and confident that you’ll receive answers. A Fast Learner More than likely, your web developer will be alien to your industry of business. He/She should know how to research information related to your business and how to implement it into your website. The Science of Information Placement And last, but certainly not least is the science of information placement. This is simply knowing what information you want your customers to see and in what order. For example, the first place a user focuses on the majority of the time when they first visit a website, is whatever is in the middle of the screen. This will be where you want to put your most important information, or sales niche. This isn’t where you want to put your lengthy sales agreements and contract information. Conclusion The first impression you want to give your potential customer is that you are qualified to deliver what they need and how they need it, better than your competition. The more time they spend on your website trying to come up with those reasons, the more that potential customer is slipping away. We want to close that sale as soon as possible. Your website reflects your business in the way it is ran, the products it provides, and how it treats its customers. Make sure that first impression is the correct one!Choosing the Best Web Designer for Your Business

New IPhone June 2010: Wishlist
Wednesday, July 1, 2009
We do not understand why AT&T should have to subsidize those on a two-year contract who wish to receive a new iPhone early. This problem will happen again, as there is sure to be a new iPhone in 2010, as Apple have introduced a new model over the past three years. There are some that say that this could be the iPhone 4G.
The first was the Apple iPhone 2G back in 2007, then there was the iPhone 3G in 2008, now we have the iPhone 3G S for 2009. Those who wish to have the new iPhone have to understand that there will be a new iPhone model each year, so you should accept that you would have to have the phone for two years.
The problem is these phones are very expensive and AT&T already subsidizes them, you have to remember that they are running a business; they cannot offer you the handset for three. There are two options, the first, if you want to upgrade to a new iPhone each year, then you will have to pay the price for the upgrade. The second is that Apple should not offer a new model each year, or maybe tell the networks carriers to offer a year contract.
If there were to be a new Apple iPhone for 2010, what would your wishlist be, such as what hardware you would like to see? Let us know by adding your comments below.

HP Pavilion Slimline S3400t Desktop Review
Saturday, June 27, 2009
?a bad thing. I could tell you how good these s3400t's are but that's part of their beauty. They were made to be customizable. I wish they were fully customizable, but some upgrades were building to fit the small frame of this petite PC. Can't have everything I suppose.Units start at 2.2GHz Dual core, but you can strap on any Core 2 Duo, if you're carving a bit of speed. It's terrible that I feel like laughing at what I just said. Anyway, the 2 gigabytes can be stretched to 4 and that'll about take care of all your RAM needs. You'll be able to play a fair number of today's popular titles with this computer, but it's not exactly a gaming PC so you might not want to invest too much in the newer graphic intensive games. The basic model comes with Nvidia GeForce 7100 integrated graphics and if the (near) future classics you intend to play need more, there's enough space in that tiny box for a respectable 256MB 8500GT if you want it. With this model, you can get a combo-drive with LightScribe CD labeling, and if your little friend is going to the living room, you might also consider a drive capable of Blu-ray HD. The 15-in-1 multimedia card reader will probably catch most of your transfer compatibility needs with two front panel USB ports for everything else.HP Pavilion Slimline S3400t Desktop Review

T-Mobile-G1-and-myTouch-3G-No-HTC-Sense-UI
Reviews for the Sense UI so far have been good and for those of you who own a Android phone that is not Google branded you should be able to run the redefined interface. Chances are that hackers will bypass the restrictions for Google branded phones however this will be breaking terms of the licensing.
All this said Android is still a very impressive OS without the Sense UI, so its not a major issue if your phone is Google branded, check Engadget for the full story.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad T400s: Only 0.83-inches thin
Wednesday, June 24, 2009
It is no secret that these ultramobile netbooks have some key weak areas, and a 15-inch notebook loves to drain its battery, so Lenovo hopes to have hit the sweet spot as Engadget puts it. The T400s has a 14.1-inch screen and in its basic from weighs just under four pounds.
Inside you have an Intel 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, a choice of either a 250 GB HDD or a 128 GB SSD. Other hardware includes a 9.5mm slim DVD burner or Blu-ray player, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, optional WiMAX / WWAN / Bluetooth / ultra-wideband and a multitouch trackpad.
The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s is now available to buy, but has a price tag of $1,599, which seems to be a little on the high side.

Nokia E72 vs BlackBerry Tour 9630: Business Phones
Tuesday, June 23, 2009
According to PC World, the Nokia E72 will be made available in Q3 of 2009. When you look at both handsets, the do look very similar, although the BlackBerry Tour is a little wider and thicker than the Nokia E72, both weigh 4.5 ounces.
Both handsets have a 2.4-inch display, but it is the BlackBerry Tour that takes the win here, as its screen is much brighter and crisper. Navigating is one of the most important features for a business handset, and the BlackBerry Tour uses the trackball that has been used on previous BlackBerry models. The E72 has something new to offer, and that is an optical trackpad, which certainly looks very easy to use. Read more about the specs here.
We have a full video review of the BlackBerry Tour handset here

Review of the All New HP Mini 2140 Netbook
Saturday, June 20, 2009
?enough to sell like a commodity, and still have it perform an useful function that fills a real need in the customer's life? The HP Mini 2140 is one of several attempts by major manufacturers to come to market in just the right way to tempt consumers with a product that is all of the above. The HP Mini 2140 comes encased in an attractive aluminum shell that gives it a distinctive look not unlike the look of some Macintosh laptops. This resemblance lends the HP Mini 2140 a degree of fashion credibility, and its design brings it supreme portability. The functionality of the HP Mini is impressive; it retains the 54mm ExpressCard slot and the dinky keyboard from previous incarnations that won the HP Mini high praise for thoughtful design. Compromises have to be made somewhere, and HP makes its design compromise in the touchpad; the narrow cursor trackpad with the buttons on the side are an odd design decision that stands out as a trademark quirk of the HP Mini. The narrow cursor pad is a problem because male users can often find everything rather too small and finicky for normal male-size hands. The HP Mini's heart is an Intel Atom N270 processor, but you hardly notice any performance issues staring at the beautiful screen that has a resolution that touches 1024 x 576. A screen as good as that is undoubtedly going to drain some power, and it would be a good idea to pay extra for the option of a $30 six-cell battery. Without this option, the HP Mini 2140 is unlikely to go past a couple of hours running on battery power. HP's six-cell technology reportedly performs better than competing designs, in addition.Review of the All New HP Mini 2140 Netbook

T-Mobile: New Android phone announcement next week
Friday, June 19, 2009
This has to be in response to Wall Street Journal, who suggested that T-Mobile would make an announcement soon, so the carrier thought that it was the right thing to confirm this. Therefore, we now have to wonder what details they will share with us.
T-Mobile did not state what they would be announcing, but it is assumed that it will be the myTouch 3G, the second Google Android handset from T-Mobile. This has to be it, as the handset has already been launched as the Google Ion, which is the spitting image of the HTC Magic.

Exclusivity and New iPhone (3G S) 2009
Monday, June 15, 2009
I like so many other iPhone lovers cannot wait until the exclusivity agreement is over. AT&T's deal with Apple is due to end in 2010, we just hope that Apple sees sense and opens the iPhone up to other carriers.
Let's face it, this AT&T exclusivity deal is not good for Apple as it is dragging them down, this makes you wonder how involved AT&T are with the whole iPhone project. There could be another reason, I start to wonder if AT&T know that their exclusive deal is about to end, so they are looking to cash in before that happens.
It is not just AT&T who are being greedy and not thinking about its customers, the O2 network has the exclusivity deal with the iPhone in the UK, and they have also increased their prices. Having the iPhone on just one network does not seem like good business, as this limits the amount of network coverage on offer.
The problem you have with this is simple, you could be in the market for a new iPhone 3G S, but you know that the network that has the exclusive deal does not provide network coverage in the area you will use the Smartphone in the most. This has to have a huge effect on Apple profits, as the global market is in a downturn, surly Apple will do what it can to assure greater profits, and opening up the iPhone to other networks is the logical step.

Intel lose market share to AMD
Sunday, June 14, 2009
AMD shares have risen by 2.3 percentage points to 12.8%, Intel has dropped 2.5 points to 79.1%, this is according to iSuppli. They also said that this decline has ended a string of four quarters of sequential growth in 2008.
Microprocessor global sales have fallen by 20.6% to $6.9 billion from $8.6 billion in the fourth quarter compared to the same period last year. AMD managed to increase its share in the first quarter; both AMD and Intel have seen a decline, which is a direct result of the global economic downturn.

iPhone 3G S AT&T Exclusive: Verizon anyone?
Thursday, June 11, 2009
While studying the price plans, upgrade price and handset price, it seems that AT&T are now taking its exclusivity with the iPhone for granted. This is now leading for more calls for Apple to open the iPhone up to other carriers, and Verizon would be the first choice.
AT&T exclusive deal with the iPhone runs out in 2010, and if Apple wants to keep selling these handsets, then they had better start to listen to who pays their wages, and that is the customer.
This is the same story in the UK, O2 has the iPhone exclusive deal with Apple and they are also taking advantage of the deal. It seems that these companies know that they are the only choice to have an iPhone on contract.
The new Apple iPhone 3G S needs to open up on to other networks and end the monopoly that they have on us. When it comes to having a Smartphone as popular as the iPhone, we should have a choice who we would like to have our contract with, not just one who can seem to pluck any price out of the air.
Who would like to see the iPhone expanded with more networks?

Acer Aspire One Notebook: A Laptop Review
Wednesday, May 27, 2009
?Lenovo are finding ways to have a reduced-but-not-too-reduced features and performance against price. The trouble is the plunging prices of full-fledged notebooks. The Linux-based configuration of HP's 2133 Mini-Note is selling for $499 while the Windows Vista Business Model is at $829.The original 7-inch-screened Eee costs $400 while Asus' current 10-inch Eee PC 1000 is at $700. This does not include the buzz about an Asus presentation a month ago outlining a confusing crop of more than 20 Eee-branded PC at $900.Acer's Aspire One makes an impressive entrance in the netbook wars. In a report over at UnwiredView, the news comes after a significant drop in market share and handset sales for the company during the last few months.
According to UWV, the Sony CFO has acknowledged this problem and has blamed it on ‘falling demand and a gap in the product portfolio’.
100 Million Euros this fiscal year though, is a big ask we think. Be interesting to see how Sony Ericsson goes about gaining the money needed. Look out for a Sony Ericsson fundraiser near you!
